FAQ

How is the total word count calculated?

Each Chinese character counts as 1, each English word counts as 1, and a run of digits counts as 1; punctuation and spaces are not in the total. This matches how most teachers and competitions count; if there is a specific rule, follow it.

Why does it differ from Word’s word count?

Word’sword countcounts Chinese characters, English words and some punctuation separately, and versions differ slightly. Here punctuation is listed separately so you can add or subtract it as needed.

Is the speech time accurate?

Spoken Chinese runs about 200 to 300 characters per minute; 250 is a good figure for a report. Add time for pauses and changing slides, and leave about 10% spare.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser, and the text is only kept temporarily on this device so you can pick up after a refresh.
